The Renault Laguna 1.5 dCi 110 Dynamique Sport Tourer – AM’s latest long-termer – accounts for a third of all Sport Tourer sales.
While Renault will not release unit volumes, it says sales are split evenly between fleet and retail, with buyers predominantly male, aged 30+, with families. Its main competitors come in the shape of Ford Mondeo, Citroën C5, Vauxhall Insignia and Volkswagen Passat.
Emitting 133g/km of CO2, our test model comes under Renault’s Eco2 branding, which is used to highlight its most environmentally-friendly vehicles. It offers an official combined mpg of 56.5mpg, and its eco-focus is further reinforced with the inclusion of a gearshift prompt on the dashboard, which tells you when to change gear to get maximum fuel efficiency.
Despite this focus, the Laguna surpasses performance expectations – especially considering it has a relatively small 1.5-litre turbodiesel engine hauling an upper-medium estate.
Starting at £18,885, it is also competitively priced.
Our model, costing £21,684, has 3D satellite navigation, Bluetooth link, MP3-compatible stereo/CD, in conjunction with Comfort Pack (climate control, auto parking brake, automatic headlights and wipers) as well as metallic paint and the S Pack for its larger alloys and better seats. But rear parking sensors are a noticeable omission and are a £300 option.
Standard equipment includes cruise control, leather steering wheel, front fog lights, chrome window surrounds, and part-leather/part-cloth seats.
Due to relaunch next year, an updated version will give dealers the opportunity to upsell a new TomTom edition for an extra £360 which will have a fully-integrated TomTom system.
This will be available on Renault Selections (PCP) and on contract hire for the same monthly rental as Dynamique.
