The latest figures from Dealer-Auction show that average used car values were slightly down in April (from £3,058 in March to £3,019), while profit per vehicle increased to £162.41, a healthy 5.38% uplift on the previous month.

Average CAP clean performance remained steady at 97%.

Again there were slightly different trends in the premium sector. The average value for a premium model was £5,735 in April, up 1.5% from March. Premium models also enjoyed an increase in profit per vehicle of £182.45, an uplift of 3.2%.

However, performance against CAP clean in the premium segment was down a notch.

Gavin Smith, director of Dealer-Auction, explained: “The increase in volumes at the beginning of April has pushed the average values down very slightly and the Easter break eased demand a little.

“However, towards the end of the month, we have seen the demand building quite rapidly and the number of vehicles achieving reserve prices on first time listings considerably higher.”
