It’s day one of the scrappage scheme and what a fiasco it is.

Ford and Honda have suspended their involvement, refusing to allow deliveries due to a scrap over tax.

And there seems to be confusion in most camps.

AM has had phone calls from numerous dealers today each looking for reassurance and clarification on finer points of the scheme.

One dealer has been told that repaired write-offs do not qualify. In fact, if they are road-worthy with MoT and tax, AM understands that such vehicles do qualify.

Another dealer has been told that the manufacturer expects part of its contribution to be funded by a drop in dealer margin.

This long-awaited scheme has undoubtedly created more consumer interest than we have seen in recent months.

But, at what cost? Would you consider opting out of the government scheme and using your know-how to offer better incentives for the car-buying public?
