AM-online Forum rules

In order for the AM-online forum to be as useful and informative as possible AM requires users to comply with a number of rules, which are outlined here. Some of them are common sense and others are required under UK legal laws.

Failure to adhere to the rules will lead to you being barred from the forum and could lead to legal action being taken against you.

AM reserves the right to suspend or terminate your account with the forum at its sole discretion.

While suspended, returning to the forum using another account will constitute a further offence and will result in your account being closed permanently. AM reserves the right to delete any posting, at any time, for any reason, and is under no obligation to publish any words submitted.

Forum rules:

  • No defamatory comments. A defamatory comment is one that is capable of damaging the reputation of a person or organisation. If you are successfully sued you could be liable for considerable damages and costs

Everything posted here has to be considered in the following light. Does what has been written:

    * bring a person in to hatred, ridicule or contempt

    * cause the complainant to be shunned or avoided

    * lower a person in the estimation of right-minded people

    * imply a lack of qualification, knowledge, skill, capacity, judgement or efficiency to conduct business?

Libel is an alleged defamation of character: to take away somebody's good name.

Libel is a balance between the right to defend a reputation and the right to freedon of speech. Both are in the Human Rights Convention.

Article 10: Everyone has the right to freedom of expression...The exercise of these freedoms...may be subject to restrictions.. for the protection of the reputation or rights of others.

Please consider these points at all times when using the forum.

  • Do not post any comments that incite people to commit a crime, including incitement or racial hatred

  • Do not post messages that are unlawful, harassing, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, homophobic or racially offensive

  • No swearing. Do not use terms that could be judged offensive to others

  • Personal information. Do not post other users’ personal details including real names, address, workplace, job title, telephone or mobile number, email address etc. Users have a right to be identified by their forum nickname only.

  • Keep posts relevant. Posts which are not relevant to the automotive industry or the individual topic waste users’ time and devalue the forum

  • Advertising, promotion of products or services. These are only acceptable in the Chat Room

  • No impersonating. Impersonating someone is unacceptable

  • Inappropriate usernames. Usernames that are vulgar or offensive will be blocked

Although the administrators and moderators of the AM-online forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages. All messages express the views of the author and neither the owners of the AM-online forum, nor Thought (technical support for the Forum) will be held responsible for the content of any message.

Registering to use the AM-online Forum requires you to supply AM with some personal details.

If you do not wish some of these details to be made public, please ensure you lock your Profile.
