What does your job entail?

I head up a team of five, developing new business opportunities and providing customer support to existing accounts across southern England and Wales.Other jobs?
I have more than 28 years’ industry experience, including 14 years with ICI and PPG as an area sales manager, regional and national account manager. Most recently I was business development manager for ATS before joining AkzoNobel.

How did you get in to the automotive business?
In my brother-in-law’s crash repair shop, and worked my way up – right across the bodyshop ­– starting out as a paint sprayer.

What advice would you give to young people planning to join the industry?
Keep your options open. It pays to look around for different opportunities.

How will your job change over the next few years?
Supporting existing business and growing new business will always be at the core of this job, although different trends may alter the approach taken.

What’s the worst career move you’ve ever made?
I’ve never made a bad move.

And the best?
I’m really enjoying my current role, and long may it continue!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
I’d very much like to stay in sales within the automotive industry.
