Almost three quarters of British motorists would consider driving an electric car to help combat green issues.

Younger motorists are more likely environmentally-friendly cars such as electric, hybrid or bio-fuel; over 80 per cent of under 25s would consider buying an electric car, according to esure research.

Over 55s were less willing to make changes, with 66 per cent considering green changes to their car-buying habits.

The survey, which questioned over 1,000 drivers, showed 65 per cent had changed their attitudes towards driving because of the credit crunch and limited spending.
