Over 3,000 jobs have been lost in the motor trade as a result of company liquidations in the last year.

Research shows to the year ending June 2009, 412 motor trade companies went bankrupt with 3,255 jobs lost.

This averages eight roles in each business.

The analysis from CreditPal shows around 164,000 people in England and Wales across a range of industries lost their jobs as their employer became insolvent.

With the number of unemployed rising by 569,000 over this period, liquidations account for 29% of the total increase.
