Volkswagen has secured the lowest insurance rating for its new Up city car, ahead of its March launch.

The entry-level £7,995 1.0-litre 60 PS Take Up, mid-range £8,970 Move Up and £9,330 Move Up with BlueMotion Technology for lower emissions are all in group 1E.

The top-spec High Up and special editions Up White and Up Black are in group 2E.

Up has a five-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, and has safety features including the use of ultra-high and super-high strength steels in the vehicle’s construction, plus ABS with hydraulic brake assist, driver and front passenger airbags, side and thorax/head airbags for front-seat occupants and ISOFIX fittings in the rear.
