Skoda is introducing a new green label with future model launches that will sit below its GreenLine brand.

GreenTech is already available on the new Citigo and denotes stop-start, energy recuperation and low rolling resistance tyres. On average it will reduce CO2 emissions by 5-8% compared to a non-GreenTech badged model, according to Skoda.

Chris Hollins, Skoda product manager, said: “We have taken the decision that, as we are in this product onslaught [Skoda is launching a new model every six months on average over the next few years], we will introduce GreenTech to new vehicles as they become available.”

The next car to bear the GreenTech mark will be the Rapid which goes on sale at the end of this year.

GreenLine will continue to signpost Skoda’s most efficient models, those that also feature improved aerodynamics, weight saving and restrictions on some options, such as sunroof and spare wheel, to minimise CO2 emissions.

“GreenLine is all singing, all dancing; GreenTech will sit across other models as a lower level green brand,” Hollins added. “We don’t want to have a pricing premium for it.”

Skoda Auto

Skoda is targeting sales of up to 78,000 units in the next five years as it secures an ever-stronger order book backed by a growing range.

Its sales hit a new high in 2010 backed by an expanding dealer netowork and they are set to reach a new record in 2011 too.

This growth is balanced between fleet and retail sales and Skoda expects there to be a 45/55 fleet retail split as demand grows in future.

A key launch for 2012 will be the Skoda Citigo, based on the VW Up, which will mark Skoda's entry into the A-segment and a significant potential uplift in sales.Until now, Roomster and Fabia have been its smallest cars.
