Audi UK has appointed Paul Sansom as its new head of sales.

Sansom succeeds head of operations Alison Jones, who earlier this year moved into a new Volkswagen Group role.

The head of sales role means Sansom will take responsibility for both new and used car sales with effect from September 3. The remit for this newly created role includes overall control of both retail and fleet sales for the first time.

Audi UK will still have a head of fleet who will report directly to Sansom, but it has not yet replaced Iain Carmichael who left the business in May “to pursue other opportunities outside the group”.

Sansom has been with VW Group for over 10 years and has worked with Audi as national sales manager, and most recently as head of aftersales and service.

Martin Sander, director of Audi UK said: "I am delighted that this new and challenging role is in Paul’s capable hands.

"I will be looking to him to unify the two teams so that we can maximise synergies and ensure Audi has the best possible sales processes, systems and programmes in place to help us realise our ambition of becoming the number one premium brand in the UK."

Audi UK’s strategy focuses on becoming the number one premium car brand, and number one for customer satisfaction among competing brands.

This approach is firmly rooted in building satisfaction and loyalty among existing customers, so when they replace their car they buy another Audi, as well as growing new markets.

After an initial dip at the start of the recession, sales have bounced back, helped by an ever-growing model range, which covers volume and niche markets, while the dealer network has remained stable.

In April 2012 Audi bought Ducati meaning it has a motorcycle brand to compete with its main rival BMW, which makes its own motorcycles and owns Husqvarna Motorcycles. Ducati has 38 dealers in the UK.
