The BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics Auto has been named as Green Car of the Year by What Car? due to its “real world” 56mpg fuel consumption figures and low tax rating with 110g/km CO2.

What Car? said the car took the prize because the 320d ED Auto “delivers great environmental credentials without compromise, which is what consumers really want”.

The Mini Cooper D won Best Green Fun Car for the second year, the Ford Mondeo won Best Green Family car and the Toyota Prius + won Best Green MPV.

Mazda’s new CX-5 2.2D Skyactive-D 150 SE-L won Best Green SUV and the Skoda Citigo won Best Green Supermini.

The Chevrolet Volt won Best Alternative-Fuel Car due to its 235.4mpg and tailpipe emissions of 27g/km of CO2.

The What Car? judging team considered all gases emitted from each model considered for the prize, as well as whole-life costs, driveability and reliability.
