A service adviser at Vertu Honda in Sunderland has seen his dedication to customer service rewarded with a Honda award.

John Sleeman (pictured left) was presented the Honda Excellence award by service manager Dave Shaw (right), after helping Honda driver Daniel Driscoll when his clutch failed 180 miles from home.

Driscoll was visiting the North East on a business trip when his Honda Accord clutch failed. It also needed a flywheel replacement and the necessary parts were not available until the weekend.

With Driscoll needing to return to Derbyshire no later than Friday night, Sleeman loaned him a courtesy car and delivered his own car back to him on a Sunday in a 360 mile round trip.

Sleeman said: “It was an honour to receive the award from Honda, but I was just relieved that I could help Mr Driscoll with his car. It is always nice to hear that a customer is satisfied with the service they have received.”

Driscoll said: “If it wasn’t for John and his excellent customer service, I’m not sure what I would have done. For John to loan me a car and then use his own day off to return mine to me 180 miles away is definitely an example of going above and beyond. I can’t thank John enough for his help and I would recommend the dealership to all Honda drivers.”
