A new Mitsubishi dealership is set to open in Chesterfield, which will create jobs and see a new showroom built.

Gilder Mitsubishi Chesterfield, which will be based next to Gilder’s existing Honda dealership, continues the growth of the Mitsubishi network, after 18 new dealerships opened in 2014.

A temporary Mitsubishi showroom is currently going up and will open on February 17, with plans for a new showroom to be built later this year.

Gilder Mitsubishi Chesterfield is part of the Gilder Group, a family-run dealership group that was first formed in Sheffield by William Gilder in 1938. The dealership has sponsorship ties to Chesterfield FC and on-going support for Ashgate Hospice.

Dan Wheeldon, sales manager at Gilder Mitsubishi Chesterfield, said: “This is a very exciting time for everyone at Gilder and we are really looking forward to opening with Mitsubishi.

"Customer service is the mainstay of our business, that’s why we have been able to keep going so long, and we know that is something that is very important to Mitsubishi. We are confident this will be a great partnership that will work well for both Gilder and Mitsubishi.”

Gilder Group employs more than 70 people, with two other dealerships in Rotherham and Sheffield.

There are 20 people employed at the site in Chesterfield and the move to add the Mitsubishi franchise will create three more jobs.

The move comes after Gilder Group opened a Mitsubishi dealership at its existing site in Doncaster Road, Rotherham last month.

Lance Bradley, managing director of Mitsubishi Motors in the UK, said: “The Chesterfield dealership has a fantastic reputation locally and I am confident it will make a great contribution to Mitsubishi’s continuing success.”
