Indian car manufacturer Mahindra has delivered its first £12,995 e2o electric city car in the UK.

Like Tesla, Mahindra is not partnering with franchised dealers to sell its e20 and will sell direct to consumers over the internet. Consumers can track the progress of their order online. However, while Tesla has its own manufacturer owned retail locations, Mahindra offers test drives through its headquarters in Chiswick, West London.

Servicing is carried out by mobile technicians. The e20 has a 72V powertrain with 15.46 kWh of power from a lithium-ion battery pack. It has a potential range of 79 miles and can reach a top speed of 63mph.

Mahindra’s first UK customer Stephanie Whittaker said: “It was quite strange purchasing a big ticket item online, but it was actually a very straight forward process.”

Steve Parkinson, Mahindra International UK chief executive, said its sales are focussing on London, Birmingham, Bristol and Milton Keynes but he is keen to expand the offering to other UK cities.
