A city centre redevelopment has prompted Lichfield’s Tempest Ford dealership to move to a new purpose-built facility.

Jobs creation and increased profit are said to be a beneficial side-effect of the move from the retailer’s current location on the junction of Birmingham Road and St John Street to the new site on Eastern Avenue.

The web-site lichfieldlive.co.uk reported that Tempest’s move had been prompted by a redevelopment of the Friarsgate area of Lichfield city centre where the current showroom is situated.

A former underwear factory which suffers from “extensive asbestos” will be cleared to make way for the new two-storey facility which will increase Tempest’s capacity from 24 to 34 cars.

The new dealership – operated by Tempest Vehicle Service – will also include an eight bay workshop, offices and a valeting area.

In a statement supporting the planning application submitted to Lichfield District Council, Tempest Ford said that the move could result in the addition of two to three members of staff to the business.

The statement added: “The relocation of Tempest Ford would enable the business to continue its present economic value and to make a further, greater contribution to the economic prosperity of Lichfield.”
