Motorpoint is poised to officially open its new site in Castleford with a giant slot car race aiming to get footfall on track.

The 600-vehicle car supermarket site will open to the public on Saturday with a giant Scalextrix track among the attractions aiming to draw customers to the opening of the car supermarket group’s tenth site.

Over £5m has been invested in the construction of the purpose-built, nine-acre outlet in West Yorkshire – creating over 50 new jobs in the process.

Mark Carpenter, managing director of Motorpoint, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be bringing the Motorpoint brand to West Yorkshire and look forward to giving customers in Castleford the opportunity to experience first-hand our award-winning combination of choice, value and service from April 2 onwards.”

Motorpoint Castleford, which is located on the former Glasshoughton colliery and coking works, will stock 600 new and low mileage nearly new vehicles from 30 different vehicle manufacturers together with instant access to a further 5,000 cars in group stock.

The site is set to be officially opened by the Mayor of Wakefield, Councillor June Cliffe MBE and players from the Castleford Tigers rugby league team.

Motorpoint Castleford will be open seven days a week, including until 8pm weekdays, and offers customers free Wi-Fi and a customer café serving a selection of hot and cold food and drinks.

The site lines up alongside Motorpoint’s existing operations in Birmingham, Birtley, Burnley, Chingford, Derby, Glasgow, Newport, Peterborough and Widnes.
