Family-run Saxton 4x4 have splashed out £46,000 on the number plate ‘1 SUV’ and this week attached the purchase to its latest showroom addition – Bentley’s £160,000 Bentayga.

Now gracing what is perhaps the most glamourous SUV on sale, the new number plate was bought by the business based on Westway, Chelmsford, at the recent DVLA sale at the Tankersley Manor Hotel, near Barnsley, which raised more than £5.3m.

James Beattie, the dealership’s social media manager told AM: "The SUV market has become big business in the UK, having come over from the US and the new number plate it is a great tool for us. It’s a marketing dream.

"You don't get the opportunity to own something like that too often; it is part of automotive history and something that is really valuable for the company."

Beattie, who captured images of '1SUV' for AM this morning, said: "The Bentayga arrived with us today. It's the perfect vehicle for the number plate. It looks great."

The team at Saxton 4x4 said that they had to overcome keen bidding from major car manufacturers to land their pricey number plate purchase.

Despite paying top dollar, the business currently has no plans to sell-off the ‘plate and plans to rotate around some of the company's more prestigious vehicles.
