Two Farnell Land Rover dealerships are offering free storage of customers summer tyres when they have winter tyres fitted.

The move is part of a winter safety campaign. The service is for those who’ve had their winter tyres fitted at the Farnell’s centres.

Jatinder Aujla (pictured), operations director for Farnell Land Rover (part of Vertu Motors), said: “Winter tyres can make all the difference to the way a vehicle handles in cold weather, but many people don’t fit them as they want to get the most mileage out of their normal tyres.

“By offering a free storage service, we are hoping to remove one of the barriers preventing drivers from having winter tyres fitted.

“There are misconceptions that winter tyres use studs or chains, which is incorrect. We’ve already seen our first flurry of snow and, with meteorologists predicting a harsh winter, we’d like to see more people getting winter tyres fitted before the weather takes a turn for the worst.

“Winter tyres aren’t just a marketing ploy. Studies show that a car fitted with winter tyres travelling at 30 miles-an-hour stops eight metres sooner on snow compared to the same vehicle using summer tyres. That is a significant distance and could make the difference between having a collision or not.”
