The Tesla Model S has come top in this year’s Driver Power survey of more than 50,000 car owners.

In second place of the survey’s Top 150 Cars To Own rankings came another electric car, the Renault Zoe, while Renault’s Kadjar ranked third overall.

Mark Crockett, director of total customer experience at Groupe Renault UK and Ireland, said: “This outstanding result demonstrates the progression of our vehicles and reaffirms our commitment to quality. We are delighted to have the ZOE and Kadjar in the top three overall placings and it’s especially pleasing that we have achieved such impressive rankings across the categories while also selling a record number of vehicles in the UK.

“We strive to provide customers with a class-leading product and ownership experience and this strong showing is a fantastic indicator that we are on track to achieve our GO5+ mid-term plan of a top 10 ranking in the Auto Express Driver Power survey and a top 10 global opinion rank for the brand.”

The top 10 was completed by the Lexus IS mk3, Lexus GS mk4, Lexus RX mk3, Skoda Octavia mk3, Subaru Forester mk4, Jeep Grand Cherokee mk4 and Lexus RX mk2. All scored above 90% for owner satisfaction.

Owners rated the Lexus RX the most reliable, the Tesla Model S best for running costs, performance, and ease of drive, while the Lexus NX was rated top for build quality.

At the bottom of the list, only four cars scored between 80-85% for satisfaction: the Nissan Qashqai, Alfa Romeo MiTo, Vauxhall Astra mk6 and Audi A1.
