Škoda has revealed the high-performance vRS version of its 2017 facelifted Octavia, boasting the highest power output in the model's history.

The flagship is powered by a a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, developing 230ps. Acceleration to 60mph takes just 6.7 seconds and top speed is 155mph.

For those wanting more frugality, a tuned version of the Volkswagen Group’s 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, producing 184ps, is also available.

In the diesel 0-60mph is carried out in 7.9 seconds, thanks to a healthy 380nm of torque, yet average fuel economy is reported at 62.8mpg.

All models feature LED headlights, a wider front grille, larger air intakes and a black rear diffuser to accentuate the car’s sporting pretensions. It also has red brake callipers and 18-inch alloy wheels.

To enhance driving dynamics Škoda has lowered the suspension by 15mm and increased rear track by 30mm.

Drivers can adjust the steering, dampers and throttle response using the Dynamic Chassis Control system, giving a choice between normal, comfort or sport settings.

Inside the vRS benefits from half leather sports seats, ambient interior lighting, aluminium pedals and a raft of Škoda’s ‘simply clever’ solutions, including umbrellas in the door pockets.
