Peugeot has revealed the latest generation of the 308, heralded as its most high-tech model yet.

Available for delivery from September onwards, the new-generation 308, available in hatch, SW and GTi features a new vertical grille and LED daytime running lights for all models. Inside, the integration of Peugeot’s i-Cockpit interior layout offers connected 3D satnav and new graphics.

All models can now be specified with the advanced driver assistance systems found on the 3008 SUV.

The engine range includes a new 1.5 BlueHDi 130 Stop&Start engine and a new eight-speed automatic transmission coupled with the BlueHDi 180 Stop&Start engine.

David Peel, Peugeot UK managing director, said: “The new 308 offers the complete package for car buyers, fusing eye-catching styling, the latest in-car connectivity and up-to-the-minute powertrains.”

“Across the board, we’ve enhanced the 308’s unique personality with a strong and high-tech look, and that feeling has been applied inside too with features such as the i-Cockpit bringing seamless connectivity, as well as driver assistance systems that help to take the stress out of driving.

“Factor in a range of new, highly efficient powertrains, including an eight-speed automatic, and the new PEUGEOT 308 adds up to a compelling package.”

Connectivity and driver assistance systems

I-Cockpit includes ‘mirror screen’, that duplicates the user’s smartphone on the vehicle’s touchscreen, compatible with MirrorLink, Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

The new 3D satnav system with voice control is connected to the TomTom Traffic realtime traffic monitoring service.

Extended driver assistance runs to eight latest-generation systems, including active safety brake and active lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control, including a stop function (with automatic transmission), or a 19mph function (with manual transmission).

For parking convenience, the new 308 uses Visiopark 1 with 180° rear camera and the park assist function, which measures the parking space available and automatically steers the car in and out.

New engines

The three-cylinder petrol engine has undergone a major upgrade, with emission controls for low real-life fuel consumption and more efficient pollution reduction.

The 308 is the first PSA Group model to get the new BlueHDi 130 S&S Diesel engine, a four-cylinder unit.

The BlueHDi 180 ‘stop&start’ diesel engine, exclusive to the new 308 GT, is available with a new-generation EAT8 automatic transmission, which has been developed with Japanese specialists Aisin.
