A training and accreditation scheme for installers of vehicle communication equipment will launch in 2009.

The Federation of Communication Services (FCS) has launched the scheme, the FCS Installer Training and Accreditation Scheme (FITAS) in an effort to reflect professional standards within the industry.

John Thomson, co-chair of FCS installers group, said businesses and consumers are demanding more than ever before from their mobile technology and those who fit them.

"Intelligent transport systems are also now becoming a reality.”

He added: “The need has never been greater fro a comprehensive professional accreditation scheme, to ensure the installation industry is fit for purpose.”
