Bosses from the British car industry are due to meet the Government next week about financial help for the sector.

Head of Jaguar Land Rover David Smith told Jeff Randall of Sky News about the meeting during an interview last night.

Smith said the bosses did not want state aid, but are requesting help with credit via commercial loans or Government loan guarantees.

He added the company was committed to this country and there was "plenty of scope" for producing more vehicles here.

Smith said: " We'll be meeting with the Government again next week, the whole industry is meeting with them.

"We're very clear about what our requests are and we'll see what response we get at that time.

He continued: "We are working very closely with our unions and we have a very good relationship with them.

"What we're both keen to do is to try to avoid any further redundancies because clearly we don't want to lose skilled workers at this time, we need them for the future."
