A Dorset car trader has been ordered to pay out nearly £39,000 from his 'clocked car' crimes, after court action by the county's trading standards service and police financial investigators.

On June 4, 2009 at Bournemouth Crown Court, David Metcalfe of Ringwood, who traded as Egmont Motors, was given a confiscation order to pay £35,950 under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.

He was also ordered to pay legal costs to Dorset County Council of £2,830.

Metcalfe, also known as David O'Connor, had previously pleaded guilty to five offences: two of applying false mileage descriptions to vehicles; two of attempting to obtain consumers' money by deception, and one of obtaining a customer's money by deception using a false vehicle mileage.

For this he was given a three months suspended prison sentence, and ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work in the community.
