Exchange and Mart focuses on dealer website development

Exchange and Mart has created a new web team, dedicated to bringing dealers better marketing opportunities and management information tools.

Since closing the door on its print publication in 2009, Exchange and Mart has enjoyed a year-on-year increase in visitor activity of 22%.

Now a new development team is concentrating efforts on enhancing dealer capabilities to advertise online by improving performance and the functionality of the site.

This will include providing dealers with the opportunity to review and understand visitor activity on the stock it displays.

"By investing in this highly-experienced team of web developers, we can work on ways to deliver a greater ability to understand traffic and visitor activity on dealers' stock advertised on the site," said Debra Healy, digital director of Exchange and Mart.

"These new features aim to make ExchangeandMart.co.uk an even more powerful marketing tool for dealers, helping them to take advantage of the 22% increase in car buyers looking at their stock.

"A programme of continued investment in expanding this web development team over the coming months confirms our ongoing development of the Exchange and Mart brand, providing our dealer community with a comprehensive and competitive route to market. This is an extremely exciting time for Exchange and Mart, as the in-house development team steps up our campaign to be the ultimate partner for retailers."

Beware this! As an experienced web business, I will say:

What you are doing by allowing these 3rd parties/aggregators/comparison/advertising sites to take control of your offering and "help" you like this is to subvert your future opportunities on the internet.

I believe you will get locked in and will come to be reliant on them, and will not be able to swim with the sharks on your own. I've nothing against AutoTrader or Exchange and Mart etc, but give away your own web independence at your peril. When the advertising prices go up, you are locked in. They will probably see everything you are doing via a "stats" package. Businesses using AutoTrader are often completely trapped. Ask around, most car businesses hate this, but are so thick they jump on the bandwagon and cannot jump off again.

Most general public will search on Google. I get over 120,000 unique visits every month so if a Chinese bird can achieve that, anyone can. Independent of everyone, with no paid links. Google is great (not AdWords, just generic search).

I grabbed three computer students from Sunderland Uni (now all graduated with Firsts) and built and did it all myself. Award-winning and all :) You can, too. Remain independent!
