Peugeot, Citroen and Honda have joined Toyota in issuing massive vehicle recalls this month.

Around 6,700 Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 models will be recalled in the UK as they are fitted with the same accelerator pedal used in the Toyota Aygo that is one of eight different models being recalled by Toyota.

Like the Aygo, under certain circumstances the accelerator pedal can stick and stay partly pushed down or return slowly back up.

The majority of the cars to be recalled are set to be Peugeot 107 models, with 6676 cars made between 2005 and 2009 affected by the fault. The manufacturer will be contacting the relevant owners.

A Peugeot spokesman said: "Not all 107 models will be affected. It will only be those with ESP and also those with the Two-tronic semi-automatic gearbox."

The recall will only affect a small number of Citroen C1 models in the UK with around 36 vehicles being recalled.

This is because it is only an issue on petrol models fitted with ESP while diesel models aren't affected.

Citroen will also be writing to the owners affected.

Meanwhile Honda is recalling the Jazz as faulty electrics could cause a fire.

The recall affects 171,372 UK Jazz models in the UK made between 2002 and 2008.

Worldwide the number of recalls for the Jazz will be nearer 646,000 cars.

The reason for the recall is the electric window switch in the driver's door, which if exposed to too much water, can prevent the window from opening and closing.

In extreme cases it can also lead to the switch overheating resulting in fire although this has not happened to any Jazz models in the UK.

* Toyota is recalling 180,865 vehicles in the UK following an accelerator problem. It is recalling up to 1.8 million cars across Europe.
