This new turbodiesel engine in the Scenic and Grand Scenic range is a critical development for Renault as the brand focuses on its core fleet and retail customers in 2012 because it is likely to account for a large part of the model line’s sales.

With CO2 emissions down at 115g/km and combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg, the replacement for the old 1.9dCi will appeal to cost-conscious fleet managers and private buyers looking to manage their household expenses carefully.

That appeal can only be enhanced the reassurance next month of Renault’s Four Plus promise: four years’ servicing, warranty, roadside assistance and finance.

This means it is one of the most efficient and attractive mid-sized MPVs on the market.

Despite its frugal-focus, the engine achieves 128bhp and has plenty of tractable torque low in the rev range so is fully capable of its role as transport for five, and occasionally seven, occupants.

It drives well, with great standards of smoothness and flexibility from the engine.

In Dynamique TomTom specification, this £22,200 Grand Scenic has a quality feel.
