Benfield Motor Group is a £500m plus turnover family owned business that was founded in the North East in 1957. The business has grown both organically and through acquisition to become one of the largest and best known private companies in the North East with 30 sites across North England and Scotland.
Following a period of significant expansion, Benfield is seeking to appoint a high calibre Finance Director. The primary responsibilities of the role will be to run the Finance and Administration function (including assuming Company Secretary duties), providing leadership and direction to the finance team. The Finance Director will be expected to develop and provide high quality and relevant management information, utilise that data to identify and act upon trends, manage working capital, establish and maintain excellent relationships with banks and identify and negotiate suitable sources of funding as well as leading the Group's Compliance function. Having grown significantly in recent years, it is envisaged that the Finance Director would also be responsible for leading a review of the existing finance structure and implementing the necessary changes to ensure that it is best placed to serve the business in an efficient and cost-effective manner.    
The successful candidate will have operated at a senior finance level and have experience of helping a business develop its strategy, ensuring that the financial and wider commercial implications of business decisions are highlighted and taken into account. Furthermore they will have experience of evaluating and restructuring a finance department in order to best serve a business. Other key areas of experience that will be required include identifying and sourcing appropriate funding and ensuring the finance team adds value by acting as a business partner to other disciplines. Some key attributes that will be common in all short-listed candidates, will be intellectual ability, strong communication and influencing skills and the ability to operate in a hands-on capacity when required. Previous experience of working in the motor retail industry would be beneficial but is not essential.
