Chairman-designate at the RAC, Alan Bowkett, has resigned - just three months after taking on the role.

Current chairman, Sir Trevor Chinn, has cited "differences in management style" for the departure. Sir Trevor was due to retire from RAC at the end of the year to make way for Bowkett.

Sir Trevor has been busy scotching rumours of any fall-out with Mr Bowkett - claiming that his former colleague had "behaved like a gentleman." It has also been revealed that Bowkett will not be receiving a severance payment.

Company sources are reported as claiming that Bowkett's departure is linked to his disappointment at being unable to carve out a more hands-on role.

Sir Trevor denies that rumour:"It is very difficult to define because the role of a chairman in a company is complex and cannot be put down on paper."
