Although the news this morning has yet to be officially announced, Fiat SpA, as expected, is widely reported to have confirmed the appointment of the Austrian Herbert Demel, the former CEO of Audi, then of Volkswagen's Brazilian operations and for the last year president and CEO of Magna Steyr, as CEO of Fiat Auto. Demel will succeed Giancarlo Boschetti, 64, as CEO of Fiat Auto. Demel will be the first non-Italian to head Fiat Auto and the unit's third chief executive since 2001.
