Green taxes imposed on the UK in the future could include a £3,300 levy on new cars.

Recommendations from the Green Fiscal Commission could mean a drastic reshaping of the tax system to reign in greenhouse gas emissions.

A 100-page report from the GFC is due to be presented today by Lord Turner, head of the committee on climate change.

Among its recommendations is a proposal for a £300 tax on new cars, rising annually to £3,300 by 2020.
