Ford has revealed the first details of the fourth-generation Mondeo which will go on sale in autumn next year.

The new model will come with Ford’s 123bhp 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine and the brand is expected to push further high-tech features on the saloon including the ability to create a wi-fi hotspot and inflatable seatbelts which expand to reduce surface area pressure on a passenger’s body in the event of an impact.

Ford is expecting the Ecoboost Mondeo to emit 130g/km CO2 which could help the brand win back fleet sales from German brands. There will also be a petrol-electric hybrid.

Barb Samardzich, vice president, product development, Ford of Europe, said: “This is the most premium Mondeo we’ve ever built and the most premium vehicle Ford’s loyal European customers have ever been offered.

“It raises the bar in its segment in terms of style, technology and quality.”
