The recent closure of two Smart dealerships is part of DaimlerChrysler’s global business plan for the brand, according to the manufacturer.

AM reported last year that DCUK was to simplify the Smart line-up and reduce the investment required by dealers to take on the franchise.

A spokesman says: “The Smart retail operation at Dartford has been relocated to a showroom at Smart of Lakeside, operated by Lancaster. Smart of Watford was a small ‘shop in shop’ location and has been consolidated into the larger Colindale facility.”

As part of plans for London, a Smart facility will be sited in the Brooklands development, due to open in the summer.
