Smart has released the first pictures of its new Fortwo, which doesn’t go on sale until autumn next year.

The new model has re-engineered petrol engines and is slightly larger in size. The DaimlerChrysler owned brand said the 19.5 cm (seven inch) increase in length was to increase safety aspects of the design and improve ride comfort.

The car comes with a new five gear transmission system, automatic electric soft top roof (in the cabrio version) and the same trim lines; pure, pulse and passion.

UK pricing and specification will be announced nearer to launch.
