Tony Dent (35), Corporate Sales Manager, Mercedes-Benz Sheffield.

How did you get into the automotive business?
After working in the telecommunications industry, I decided that I wanted a change. I loved cars from a very young age and was looking through the local paper when I saw a job for a “motivated individual seeking a career in automotive sales”. I applied straight away.

What does your job entail?
Creating specialised vehicle solution packages for local, national and international businesses. My team also offers a full range of services through our dealerships including full repair and maintenance, bespoke financial packages and fleet consolidation.

How will your job change over the next few years?
I can see the need for a far more environmentally-friendly approach to business and corporate car fleets.

What advice would you give to young people planning to join the industry?
Be prepared to work very hard. I think it is also important to work for a company that believes in promoting from within.

What’s the best career move you’ve ever made?
Joining the automotive industry and staying with Mercedes-Benz and JCT600.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?
Ten years is a long time in this industry, but I would like to think I will make brand director at the very least.
