UK car production up 7.5% in September

UK car production saw a 7.5% rise to 136,051 units in September and is up 4.8% over the first nine months of 2011.

Commercial vehicle output rose by 6.2% to 12,046 units in September but is down by 2.7% over the January-September period.

UK engine production rose by 6.6% in September to 244,270 units and is up 5% over the year-to-date.

Paul Everitt, Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders chief executive, said: "September saw a 7.4% increase in total UK vehicle manufacturing, confirming a positive trend we expect to continue into 2012.

"Major new investment by vehicle manufacturers is opening up opportunities for UK-based suppliers, helping to drive the economic recovery and private sector investment."
