Hyundai signs up international football stars in Euro 2012 sponsor deal

Hyundai has signed up five international football stars as brand ambassadors during its top partner sponsorship of the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament.

Team Hyundai includes Iker Casillas (Spain), Lukas Podolski (Germany), Giuseppe Rossi (Italy), Karim Benzema (France) and Daniel Sturridge (England). The team will act as ambassadors for the brand in Hyundai’s communications activities around what will be this year’s biggest footballing event.

Hyundai will also launch a dedicated Facebook application where fans can ‘like’ their favourite Team Hyundai player and for each ‘like’ the Korean brand will donate €1 to help support young players to become footballers of the future.

Hyundai has been a partner of UEFA for more than 12 years. As the UEFA Euro 2012 top partner, Hyundai will deliver a fleet of more than 350 Hyundai vehicles consisting of various models to transport teams, VIPs and tournament officials.

Hyundai Motor Company is now one of the top 50 global brands, according to Interbrand's 2013 Best 100 Global Brands, reaching number 43 this year.

The rise reflects its successful climb up the sales charts, with a market share that now puts some traditional volume brands to shame.

However, 2014 presents a key challenge as the brand tries to shed its value origins, starting with the new i10.

Executives admit dealers are nervous about the transition, but pricing has to reflect the model investments needed to compete with European brands, including a production shift that means 90% of i10s sold in Europe will be made in Europe.

Hyundai has also recognised the importance of business sales in its future growth. It has begun the roll-out of 27 fleet business centres at selected dealers across the brand’s UK network.

The centres offer a number of additional, bespoke services to business customers and aim to deliver competitive purchase deals and contract hire rates for SMEs with fleets of up to 10 vehicles, while head office will support the fleet market with a restructured fleet sales team.
