Plans have been submitted for a new Kia car showroom at the Centrum East Retail Park in Burton On Trent.

The application by construction group GF Tomlinson is for a combined showroom and six-bay workshop conforming with Kia's 'Red Cube' corporate identity with integral two storey office space and a seperate valeting building, with a forecourt and storage compound for 150 cars.

The 1.6 acre greenfield development, to be sited near busy restaurants and a school and to be visible from the A38 Burton to Birmingham road, the application states.

The dealership, if approved by East Staffordshire Borough Council, will become the new home for Burton Kia, which employs 22 people at its current site in Moor Street.

"The car dealership has outgrown its current premises and wishes to stay within the town. The proposals will create a new modern, bespoke car showroom that will allow the dealership to develop their already thriving business forward and retain existing employment within the town," said architects Marchini Curran Associates.

Burton Kia used to be part of dealer group Inchcape Retail until a management buy-out in 2011 following Inchcape's announcement that it would refocus on premium and prestige brands.
