The Czech brand's new hatchback will rival the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Astra when first deliveries get underway in the Summer.

The range consists of three trim grades; S, SE and SE L, with all three offering high levels of standard specification.

The entry-level model is fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and a 6.5-inch infotainment screen,

All models also feature front head and side airbags, Front assist, Lane assist, Speed limiter and Emergency call with proactive services.

The mid-range SE model is priced from £18,580 and adds cruise control, rear parking sensors, eight-inch touchscreen and an integrated umbrella.

Priced from £20,380, the range-topping SE L is fitted with Skoda’s new Amundsen infotainment system with 9.2-inch glass touchscreen, digital cockpit, climate control, keyless entry with start/stop and a colour multifunction trip computer.

The exterior design features 17-inch alloy wheels, full LED rear lights, dynamic indicators and privacy glass on the rear windows. Inside, the seats are finished with silver Microsuede trims and chrome details on the dashboard, door panelling, gear and handbrake lever.

There is no confirmation of CO2 emissions or MPG yet, but the new model will be offered with VW Group’s 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine with 95PS and 115PS. There will also be a 150PS 1.5-litre petrol and a 115PS 1.6-litre diesel.

The new Scala is positioned between the recently updated Fabia and Octavia models in Skoda’s new-look range.

Skoda says it offers sector-best levels of rear headroom. Its boot capacity of 467 litres (extendable to 1,410 litres with the rear seats folded) is also the most accommodating in the sector.
