Maserati has given its first UK showing of the new two-seater Spyder at the Scottish motor show in Glasgow.

The car will go on sale early next year, priced £68,750 OTR for the Cambiocorsa versions. It will be powered by a new 4,244cc lightweight alloy V8 engine producing 390bhp, giving a top speed of 175mph and a 0-60mph time of 4.9 seconds.

An innovation for Maserati is the electronically actuated six-speed transmission – adapting Ferrari Formula One technology - offering computerised gear selection through 'paddle' levers fitted behind the steering wheel.

Standard equipment includes 18-inch 15-spoke alloys, electronic traction control, anti-lock brakes and a fully automatic powered hood, while inside there is the full leather interior, air conditioning, remote central locking, powered seats with two memory settings for the driver, power lumbar seat adjustment and an electronic info centre with a 5.8-inch colour display for climate, audio and trip computer controls.

Safety features include driver and passenger front and side airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, body coloured roll bars, alarm and immobiliser.

For drivers who prefer manual transmission, the Spyder GT will offer the option when it arrives in May. Prices will be announced then.

The Cambiocorsa was unveiled at the show by Maserati UK general manager Philip Mills.
