Peugeot has upgraded the 206 range and introduced a new Style derivative. Prices are little changed, with all models except the Style getting a passenger airbag, the LX adding electric mirrors, the XS and Dturbo gaining ABS and the GTi new alloys, CD autochanger and brushed aluminium. The Style comes with 1.1 petrol or 1.9 diesel engine, remote locking, metallic paint and 12 months' insurance from £8,495, £30 less than the 1.1 LX.

Seat's new Alhambra is the last of the three Portuguese-built MPVs to be priced for the UK market and again it is the cheapest. The range starts at £17,795 for the 2.0S with six-speed transmission, four airbags, aircon, remote locking and 10-speaker stereo. The range closely mirrors the VW Sharan, with the price of the entry-level Alhambra £850 cheaper. SE and Sport models come with sports suspension as standard.

Vauxhall has added a dotcom Zafira to its limited selection of models sold solely on the internet. The 1.6-litre model comes with aircon, alloys, twin airbags, electric front windows and mirrors, remote locking and metallic paint. The closest model in the standard range is the £13,995 1.6 Club, which lacks the metallic paint and electric mirrors of the £13,500 Zafira dotcom.

Daihatsu is throwing in aircon and power steering with the Cuore + until the end of September. With the standard model costing £7,345, the options add £895 in value, although Daihatsu has, at the same time, increased option prices so that the apparent value of this change will be £1,500.

Volkswagen has added a new bargain derivative to the Passat range. Based upon the S trim with 1.8, 1.8 Turbo and new 115bhp PDi diesel engine, the 1.8 SEL undercuts the S by £355 but adds alloys, single CD player, sports suspension, velour trim and metallic paint. The 1.8 is £15,750, 1.8 T £17,150 and 1.9 PDi £17,150.

Rover has launched the MGF SE special edition based on all three of the standard roadster models. The SE gains an exterior chrome pack, spoiler and wind deflector, leather, CD player and new alloys. The 1.8 is the same price as the standard car at £18,270 (though this is currently discounted by 10%), with the steptronic £19,270 and the VVC £20,495.
