Renault has launched its new Scenic Collections range, with safety equipment designed to strengthen its Euro NCAP 4-star success.

With sales this year in the UK up 10% compared to 2000, Scénic is on course to sell in record numbers, with sales expected to top 40,000 for the year, from 35,000 in 1998.

It features safety equipment new to the sector - including ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution, and six airbags as standard across the range including curtain airbags - a class first – plus new colours, new upholstery and new comfort equipment.

In addition the Scènic RX4 - the first ever 4x4 MPV off-roader - benefits from a new entry-level model - Expression - with prices starting at £16,500 on the road, £1,200 less than the Privilège.

Standard equipment for the Scénic (pictured below) and Scénic RX4 in the 2001 Collection includes ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), driver, front passenger and front lateral airbags plus two curtain airbags, RAID - Renault Anti Intruder Device - which locks all doors when the vehicle exceeds 6mph, three point rear seatbelts for all three rear passengers, ISOFIX child seat anchorage points on both outer rear seats.

The electronic tyre pressure monitoring system on the new Laguna - which can highlight the onset of a slow puncture is now offered as an option on all Scénics with alloy wheels for £250.

There is a range of new wheel trims and alloy wheel designs, and a number of new exterior body colours. New colours include Pearl Black and Odyssey Blue, Nordic Green and Eclipse, while Glacier Blue is a new colour available on Scénic RX4. In addition all models from Dynamique upwards have body-coloured door and boot handles.

The new Scènic range takes on the designations Authentique, Expression, Expression+, Dynamique, Dynamique+, Privilège and Privilège Monaco which now apply across the Renault range, fitting these models into the three collections Freeway, Sport and Elegance.

The Freeway Collection of 2001 Scènic comprises three models - Authentique, Expression and Expression+.

The entry level Authentique is available with three engines - the 95bhp 1.4 16V and 110bhp 1.6 16v petrol engines and the 80bhp 1.9dTi turbo diesel engine. With prices starting at £12,400 on the road, Authentique features all the standard safety features, as well as remote central locking, electric front windows - with driver side one-touch operation - electrically operated and heated door mirrors, double optic headlamps, body coloured door mirrors and bumpers, 'smart' windscreen wipers that regulate themselves to the speed the vehicle is moving, and a 60W Radio Cassette HiFi with six speakers and fingertip remote control.

Next in line is the Expression featuring three petrol engines - 1.4 16V, 1.6 16V (with the option of the proactive automatic transmission) and the 120bhp 1.8 16V - plus two diesel units - 1.9dTi 80 and the 105bhp 1.9dCi common-rail diesel engine. Starting at £13,000 on the road Expression adds air conditioning, which is also linked to Scénic's unique coolbox at the base of the centre console which can hold up to three cans of drink, heat reflecting windscreen, trip computer, rear accessory power point, under seat storage for driver and front passenger and sliding and reclining rear outer seats in addition to the sliding centre rear seat fitted to all Scénics.

Expression+, adds 60w multi-CD radio cassette with six speakers and fingertip remote control, two electric tilt and slide sunroofs and an opening tailgate window. If these items were added individually it would cost £950 whereas the extra cost to the customer of the Pack+ is £600 on top of Expression prices.

Two models feature in the Sport Collection - Dynamique and Dynamique+. Available with three petrol engines - 110bhp 1.6 16V (manual and automatic), 120bhp 1.8 16V and the powerful 140bhp 2.0 16V (manual and automatic) - and one diesel unit - the 105bhp 1.9dCi common-rail diesel engine - the Dynamique model adds the following standard equipment on top of the Expression model including part leather part cloth upholstery, 16-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, front fog lamps, electric rear windows, height adjustable passenger seat, front central armrest, body coloured door handles, and leather steering wheel and gear knob covering.
Prices for the Dynamique model start at £14,100 on the road. The Dynamique model is also available with the Pack+ of 60W Multi-CD Radio Cassette with six speakers and fingertip remote control, two electric tilt and slide sunroofs and an opening tailgate window.
This packs adds £600 to the price of a Dynamique resulting in a starting price of £14,700 on the road for the Dynamique+.

The Elegance collection also comprises three models - Privilège, Privilège+ and Privilège Monaco. Available with the more powerful engines of 110bhp 1.6 16V (manual and automatic), 120bhp 1.8 16V and the 140bhp 2.0 16V (manual and automatic) - and one diesel unit - the 105bhp 1.9dCi common-rail diesel engine, the Privilège fits between the Dynamique and Dynamique+ on price and has the following equipment in addition to the Dynamique: CAT1 Alarm, roofbars, rear centre seat armrest and integrated rear screen sunblinds.

Prices for the Privilège model start at £14,500 on the road. As with all other models it comes with the the Pack+.This adds £600 to the price of a Privilège resulting in a starting price of £15,100 on the road for the Privilège+.

The top of the range Scenic in the Elegance range is the Privilége Monaco which adds leather upholstery with prices starting at £15,700 on the road.

Scenic RX4 adds an extra model to its range as well as taking on the new model names featured on Scenic. Expression is a new entry level RX4 with prices starting at £16,500 on the road.

Featuring both power plants already available in Scenic RX4 - the 140bhp 2.0 16V petrol engine and the 105bhp 1.9dCi Common Rail diesel engine - the Expression model includes the following standard equipment: manual air conditioning, 16 inch pressed alloy wheels, traction control, front fog lamps, trip computer, double optic headlamps, remote control central locking, electric front windows, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, rear accessory power point, centre cooler storage box linked to air conditioning system and 60 watt RDS radio cassette with six speakers and fingertip remote control.

Next in the new Scénic RX4 range is the Privilège at a price of £17,700 on the road for both the petrol and diesel versions. Standard equipment added to that of the Expression model includes: 16 inch cast alloy wheels, body-coloured spare wheel cover on the rear door, 'bull bar' effect front grille, roof bars, automatic climate control, electric rear windows, white instrument dials, leather steering wheel and gear knob, body coloured door handles, storage drawer under driver and front passenger seats, height adjustable passenger seat and driver's centre armrest.

The top of the range RX4, the Privilège Monaco, adds two electric tilt and slide sunroofs, a 60 Watt Multi CD player and leather upholstery to the standard Privilège specification. Both engine versions are available for £18,900 on the road.
