Volvo's new Sports Utility Vehicle, first seen in concept form earlier this year will be available in the UK in the last quarter of 2002 following launch at the Detroit and Geneva Motor Shows.

Speaking at the launch of the new D5 diesel engine in France, Gerry Keaney, managing director of Volvo Car UK said: "The SUV will put us into a new market niche and give us the opportunity to go after new customers."

The D5 engine, an all-new 2.4-litre turbo-charged unit, developed from Volvo's five cylinder aluminium petrol engine will be available in UK in S60 and S80 models, plus the V70 estate from October this year with automatic versions arriving early in 2002.

Prices start at £20,750 for the S trim S60 with the SE priced at £22,950. S80 models will cost £22,340 and £24,240 respectively and the V70 £23,960 and £25,960.
