The automotive industry is traditionally seen as a male-dominated world. But that assertion is, thankfully, fading fast. Brilliant women working in automotive are making their mark through leadership, innovation and a commitment to community.

That’s why it gives us great pleasure to announce that nominations are open for Cox Automotive’s Barbara Cox “Woman of the Year” Award 2024, honouring inspirational women in European automotive.

Named after the late Barbara Cox – a former director of Cox Enterprises, Cox Automotive’s parent company in the US – the award celebrates remarkable women who are shaping the future of the sector. Now in its sixth year, the initiative sees Cox Automotive Europe once again team up with AM and Fleet News.

Who should be nominated?

Do you know a woman, working within the automotive sector in any capacity, who….

  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership within European automotive?
  • Champions innovation and embraces positive change?
  • Passionately contributes to her community?

If so, why not submit your nomination? It’s a quick and simple process and you have until the  closing date on Friday 26 April 2024.

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel including past winners and announced at a special event on Wednesday 5 June 2024. In addition to gaining recognition across the industry, the recipient will also receive £5,000 to spend on her personal development.

Last year’s winner was Sara Sloman, Chief Strategy officer at EV fintech business Paythru. Sara was one of six women shortlisted from more than 50 entries.

She said: “It was an absolute honour just to be nominated for the Barbara Cox Woman of the Year award. Being named winner was incredibly special and it gave me an opportunity to take stock and to create new connections.”

Sara joined an impressive list of females to win the award, including Caroline Burnell, Head of Marketing & Communications at eStar Truck & Van, Alison Jones, Senior Vice-President – Global Circular Economy at Stellantis; Lorna McAtear, Fleet Manager – National Grid; and Beryl Carney, Head of VW Commercial Vehicles at JCT600 Ltd.

Sam Panayides, Cox Automotive Sales Director and board sponsor  of its Women is with Drive group said: “It gives me great pleasure to open nominations for the Barbara Cox Woman of the Year Award 2024.

“It’s an award unique in the sector, amplifying the qualities of inclusion, diversion and equality that underpin everything we do as a business.

“Celebrating the incredible achievements of women helps all of us to grow and improve, to do even better work together. Please nominate someone you think is a great leader, a woman who gives back to her community and inspires others to do the same, just as Barbara Cox did.”
