Citroën has confirmed the UK specification of its new C4 and ë-C4 electric vehicle (EV) after officially opening car retailers’ order books for the crossover model.

Prices for the French carmaker’s new C4 model start from £20,990 – for the PureTech 100 S&S 6-speed manual – while the electric ë-C4 starts from £29,180 (after PICG).

Both versions of the C-segment model, which replaces the C4 Cactus, are available to order now with customer deliveries expected to get underway in early 2021.

EV ambitions

The PSA Group brand’s chief executive, Vincent Cobee, believes that the all-electric version of Citroen’s new C-segment C4 hatchback – the ë-C4 – could account for up to 20% of global sales.

All ë-C4 features a 50kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 138PS electric motor, claiming a 217-mile range.

CCS rapid charging ensures that an 80% charge can be completed in as little as 30 minutes, while a regular 7.4kW charge will reach 100% charge in seven hours and 30 minutes.

Speaking after the new model’s July unveiling, Cobee said: “The PSA Group has been complying with the EU’s new CAFE emissions regulations in every month since the start of the year and the proportion of EV sales is now at around 6%.

“The last few months have been transformative. We have to now expect that the unexpected might happen.

“I think we’d hope to start at eight to 10% of sales (being electric) but I wouldn’t be surprised if we move towards 20% very, very rapidly.”

Citroen’s intention is for the new C4 and ë-C4 to find customer appeal through combining the dynamism of a hatchback while adopting certain SUV styling details.

Developments of the the Citroën Advanced Comfort programme will see all trim grades fitted with a suspension system featuring what the brand refers to as “Progressive Hydraulic Cushions”, which integrating hydraulic bump stops to better control compression and rebound.

Advanced Comfort seats, meanwhile, provide 15mm layer of extra textured foam on the surface. As standard on all versions in the range, they ensure optimum comfort on any journey.
