The return of the model to UK showrooms is further positive news for MG retailers whose EV order books were closed in June as the fast-growing OEM attempted to meet an “unprecedented level of demand” amid global semiconductor supply shortages.

Earlier this month the brand revealed its Volkswagen ID.3-rivalling MG4 hatchback.

MG Motor UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis said: “The continued success of the outgoing MG5 EV model reflected its unique proposition in the marketplace, so we’ve worked extremely hard to identify a suitable balance between equipment upgrades and price.

"We believe the result represents unbeatable value for money in the current marketplace, and that the new MG5 EV will encourage more drivers than ever to make the switch to zero emissions motoring.”

Among the MG5's styling updates are redesigned front and rear ends and new LED headlights as standard.

SE trim models include 16-inch alloys, MG Pilot safety technology, a rear parking camera, adaptive cruise control and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard.

Rear privacy glass, a leather interior with electric seat adjustment and heated front seats feature on the Trophy trim, along with 17-inch alloys, automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers and a 360-degree parking camera.

A 10.25 inch widescreen infotainment system with upgraded software also allows connected car functionality through MG’s dedicated smartphone app.

MG claims that its new MG5 EV can now tow up to 500kg.

AM listed MG among a line-up of OEMs that are beating the new car market to achieve year-on-year registrations growth in 2022.

Data published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed the the brand's registrations had totalled 25,073 year-to-date at the end of June – up 84.4% year-to-date.

The MG5 is currently the UK’s 5th best-selling EV.
