5 MG4

The new MG4 from MG Motor UK will arrive in showroooms this autumn, priced from £25,995.

It's the first of a new family of MG's to utilise fresh underpinnings.

Three versions will be offered at launch - the MG4 EV SE Standard Range, the SE Long Range and the Trophy Long Range.

The SE Standard Range is priced from £25,995, the SE Long Range from £28,495 and the Trophy Long Range from £31,495.

The MG4 EV Standard Range uses a 51kWh battery and will be capable of 218 miles range on the WLTP cycle. Long Range SE and Trophy Models will be capable of 281 miles and 270 miles respectively, thanks to a 64kWh battery.

Long Range models will have a charging capacity of up to 135kW, meaning a charge time of 35 minutes from 10% - 80% using a 150kW DC rapid charger.

Standard specification includes MG Pilot advanced driver assistance system, automatic LED headlights and rear lights, rear parking sensors, 17’-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, automatic climate control and MG iSmart app connectivity.

Long Range SE models also include MG’s Active Grille Shutter System (AGS), which regulates air flow according to vehicle requirements. This improves aerodynamic efficiency by up to 30% and can increase EV range by as much as 10%.

Trophy models will be equipped with an upgraded MG Pilot system, with the inclusion of Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). Additionally, a two-tone roof, rear privacy glass, twin aero rear spoiler, leather interior with electric driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, Bluetooth key, satellite navigation, 360 camera, wireless phone charging and an upgraded MG iSmart system compatible with live services are all standard.

The MG4's MSP platform allows integration with future technologies including battery swap systems, while the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) will enable vehicles to receive Over-The-Air (OTA) updates throughout their lifecycle.

David Allison, head of product & planning at MG Motor UK, said: “The MG4 EV is a key part of the next phase of growth for MG. Our new MSP architecture will enable us to offer multiple options for the rapidly expanding UK electric car market, with all choices reinforcing our reputation for outstanding design, market-leading technology, and excellent value for money.”

The unveiling of the MG4 follows the recent facelift of MG’s 5 Estate.

The brand was forced to halt sales of its electric vehicles (EV) as it aims to meet an “unprecedented level of demand” amid global semiconductor supply shortages. In March, MG told its franchised car retailers to stop taking orders for new petrol vehicles.

MG has enjoyed strong sales of its existing range of pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, with the brand growing by 83% in the first five months of 2022 in market which has contracted by 8.7% during the same period.

The latest AM industry special issue

The complexity of running a modern dealership can be misunderstood easily by people looking in on our industry.

Any general manager has so many plates to spin, and they must foster a talented team that they can rely on to not just do the basics well, but to sprinkle some magic on top that customers can notice.

If the marketplace in 2023 is steadily returning to relative normality, this normality now includes the drive to find customers for an increasing supply of electric vehicles, and the need to source used cars from all channels and market them carefully. And of course there are the desires to delight consumers with an omnichannel experience and to hold on to decent margins after a couple of years of strong profitability.

The expectations of both the customer and the business’s stakeholder must be achieved to the optimum level.

In this special digital publication, industry experts, prominent suppliers and franchised dealers share their insights on the major aspects required in running a modern dealership well.
