Family-owned and run Swansway Motor Group is extending its franchise network to include Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD.

Representing the brand in two locations in Cheshire, Swansway will be opening BYD sites in Crewe, where their head office functions are based, and in Chester at their Motor Match Chester retailer.

Opening on May 1, the BYD Crewe retailer will be located on Beswick Drive, while the BYD Chester retailer will be located on Bumpers Lane.

Both dealerships will be located alongside Swansway Motor Group’s used car supermarket Motor Match.

Swansway Motor Group director John Smyth said: “We’re eager to see what this partnership will bring for the Swansway Motor Group name but also our retail and fleet customers.

Their focus on electric vehicles reflects the changes in the market and as a brand, BYD is making its mark in the UK and we are looking forward to being a part of that expansion.”

BYD entered the market in early 2023 with the Atto 3, a family SUV, and has since expanded to include two more models, the Dolphin and the Seal. All BYD vehicles will be built on the company’s new e-Platform 3.0 chassis, a modular electric platform that allows for front, rear, and four-wheel drive configurations.

Swansway Motor Group operates dealerships across the Midlands, North West, and North Wales, with 21 retailers representing eight brands and five Motor Match dealerships, alongside its Crewe-based accident repair centre and fleet division.

BYD has plans to establish a UK retail network of 100 dealerships by the end of 2025.
