Renault Nissan, planning to rationalise its engineering platforms, has still not decided whether to build new Micra at Sunderland.

Pierre-Alain de Smedt, Renault executive vice president, said most platforms would be shared by 2010. One of the two manufacturers could have its own platform if needed, such as for Nissan in the US. The aim was to have one plant producing four or five models from one platform for both brands.

Asked about the Micra/Sunderland decision, he said: “We are dependent on the decision of the EC to approve UK government grants and what happens with the euro.”
