Alpine, the in-car audio and navigational system manufacturer, will next month be the first company to introduce DVD (Digital Video Disc) navigation in the UK. By using DVD navigation, route information is far more extensive because storage capacity is almost 10 times greater than CD-ROM navigation systems. The Alpine product stores enough route information to navigate throughout 10 European countries – the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg and Spain. The new navigation system retails for £2,200 and uses the latest GPS, electronic gyro, speed sensing and DVD technology.
